Moved Moves the Judges
WestWayne associate creative director Carlos Ricque and his filmmaking team won the Best Film of 2004 award for Moved, one of more than 600 short films from around the world entered in the 48-Hour Film Project.
The project is an international filmmaking competition in which teams have just two days to make a short film from scratch. The Best Film of 2004 award was announced Saturday, March 12, at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
"The experience was a love-fest," said Ricque, whose team included fellow screenwriter Mark Billows, directors Jim Issa and Scott Ippolitto and producers Richard Sampson and Pamela Peacock. "The vibe was great. It's all about volunteers coming together just for the love of filmmaking." Before its 2004 best film award, Moved won awards for best picture, best screenplay, and best editing, as well as the coveted Audience Award at the 2004 Atlanta 48-Hour Film Project.
The seven-minute short film stars R.T. Steckel as main character Noel Franks, who is forced to turn to the one thing he's been hiding his whole life when he gets caught in a foiled robbery and needs to save the girl of his dreams. After choosing the film genre at random, each filmmaking team is required to use one specific prop, dialogue line, and character. Moved features a pair of gloves, the line, "All we've got is parts" and the character Professor N.B. Hunsecker.
