Meteorologists Are People Too
In an effort to make their meteorologists more recognizable as TV personalities and to introduce some new talent to the network, The Weather Channel recently launched a new promotional campaign. The new spots feature Jim Cantore, Alexandra Steele, and 11 others in a casual interview setting, speaking off the cuff about themselves as people and what gets them excited about weather.
Creative Director Andrea Taylor (formerly at ABC, Disney Channel, and TNT) returned again to Guillotine Post, enlisting senior editor Michael Koepenick to write and edit the new promos. Touching on such topics as their favorite sports and hobbies as well as how and why they became interested in weather, the spots showcase these professionals' dedication to their work while giving a glimpse of who they are as everyday people.
Beautifully shot on 35mm film by Stateline Films' Director Glen Owen and DP Phil Dillon, the sets are rich and sophisticated. "The shoot was so successful," says Koepenick, "that I was easily able to deliver the initial twelve minutes worth of spots and marketing content and I can probably get another 12 minutes from it without repeating content." The campaign is currently airing on The Weather Channel.
