A variety of dependable, ongoing clients continue to grace Doppler's rooms with a good range of projects. BBDO Atlanta's flagship Cingular Wireless account brought plenty of sessions to engineer Steve Schwartzberg. The agency also produced radio for Randstad and ING. Cartoon Network's new Adult Swim series "Squidbillies" has been bringing episodes into Studio G for sound design and surround mixing by Shawn Coleman. The network's new preschool block, "Tickle U," has had sound design sessions for its various packaging elements, with engineer Ryan Almario. Cartoon Network continues to produce image campaign materials, interstitial spots and promo packages as well.
Several continual clients of Blue Sky Agency have brought business to Doppler, with radio and TV production for the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Thrashers, NHL on OLN, and Doc Greens Restaurants. Fitzgerald+Co also produced radio and TV for the Georgia Lottery Corp., AmSouth Bank, and Piedmont Healthcare. Care International mixed new radio and TV image campaigns with Schwartzberg. Matlock Advertising & Public Relations recorded radio for Publix and BellSouth. Macy's continues to bring all of its radio and TV post work to Doppler. PM Publicidad has brought a good number of newer clients in to produce Spanish-language TV and radio, for accounts such as Georgia Lottery Corp., Beazer Homes, and Muevelo.
Notable recent ADR sessions have included NBC's "Surface" TV drama, for Universal Network Television; "Avatar" for Nickelodeon Studios; "Rumble," with actress Ciara; and "Snow Wonder," a TV-movie, for SmartSound. Former Atlanta resident Gary Anthony Williams came in to record VO for his "Boondocks" character, Uncle Ruckus, in Studio A with engineer John St. Denis. Brand Atlanta and Grey Worldwide booked Studio E and Granger Beem to work with producer Dallas Austin, recording Atlanta Symphony Orchestra players for their campaign song "The ATL," for use in a new City of Atlanta branding campaign.
Much work has been done at Doppler for the upcoming OutKast movie and CD "Idlewild". Sessions have included tracking and mixing for the film score, with producer Kevin Kendricks and engineers Chris Carmouche and Matt Still, with assistant Rick DeVarona. Also Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) of OutKast was in Doppler's Studio G to perform ADR for the film, a session engineered by Schwartzberg.
Author Pearl Cleage has been spending time in Doppler's Studio B, recording her novel "Baby Brother's Blues" for BBC Audiobooks America. John St. Denis is engineering and editing the sessions.
In facility news, Doppler Studios has dramatically upgraded their facilities with a major DAW conversion. They have made a substantial commitment to Digidesign, through Atlanta Pro Audio, with the purchase of seven Pro Tools systems, bringing the company total to 9 rigs. Seven are PC-based HD2 Accel systems (with 192 converters and Sync I/Os), used primarily as post-production machines in a wide range of commercial audio and video applications. Studios F and G are equipped for 5.1 and Dolby ProLogic surround mixing. Studios A and E are also furnished with Dual G5 Mac HD2 Accel systems intended for music sessions. Each utilizes three 192 interfaces plus sync I/O to allow 24 analog ins and 32 or 48 analog outs for A or E, respectively.
