Turner South Honors Black History
Turner South's monthly "Promotainment" interstitial, which airs during commercial breaks, had a distinct message in the month of February, highlighting "Black History Month." Turner South sponsored an art exhibit by renowned local African American artists at the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts in January and filmed interviews of the artists. The spots gave featured artists, including Gilbert Young, Dubelyoo, Michi, Fahamu Pecou, Anyka Barber, Marcia Jones, Janay Everett, Dante and Jabari Graham, a chance to speak about their artwork and its relation to African American history.
Producer/director Vincent Aricco said, "Turner South wanted to have a strong Black History Month presence on-air in February. I pitched the idea of doing a shoot with African American artists from Atlanta talking about how Black History, Art and the South are all related. I tracked down Jabari Graham, who has an art collective Art, Beats + Lyrics. He's put on many successful art shows around town, including last year's blowout even at The High. He put me in contact with all the artists."
Arrico continued, ÔWe shot using 3 Panasonic DVX 100a cameras. The cameras were set at different focal lengths and rolled simultaneously during each artist interview. I wrote up a list of questions for each artist and the interview was very free-flowing between myself and each artist." For lighting, the team turned to a dedo kit, Arri light kit and softlight 750 package.
Other principals from the shoot were John Malone, art direction; Pete Wages, DP/Light design; Matthew Hutchinson, associate producer; and Chris Linder, sound.
