Great American Books
Or, maybe we should say, great books by great Americans. Congratulations to Eric L. Haney, Command Sergeant Major, USA (Ret.) on the publication of his book about his experiences as a founding member of the military’s elite unit, Delta Force. “Inside Delta Force: The Story of America’s Elite Counter terrorist Unit” is Haney’s first person account of the grueling selection process; rigorous training; top secret missions, including the attempted raid to free the Iranian hostages; and old fashioned jungle and infantry warfare. Oz is privileged to know this true gentleman through working with his lovely bride, Oz Contributing Editor and well known Copywriter, Dianna Edwards.
On June 6, the anniversary of D-Day, friends and well wishers gathered for a “Pizza and Patriotism” party and book signing to honor Haney’s accomplishment, and to honor his comrades to whom the book is dedicated. The event was held at one of Atlanta’s great patriotic landmarks and watering holes, Rocky’s Pizza in Buckhead.
The party was packed with friends, family, writers, fellow soldiers, and many in Atlanta’s visual communication industry. Haney’s agent, Frank Weinmann of The New York Literary Agency also at tended. Weinmann has a good eye. He’s had 14 books on the New York Times Best Seller list in the past two years.
And, if all that was not enough excitement, a candidate for the Darwin Awards paid a visit to Rocky’s during the festivities. A young man attempted an armed robbery inside the restaurant while twenty or thirty former soldiers were at this party. Rousso, several retired warriors, and others quickly chased down and subdued the would be thief. It is probably an understatement to say that the party got a bit more jocular after these heroes gave their police statements and sat down over their beers to rehash their story!
