Good Deeds from IMAGE
While most kids were still shaking off the last yawning moments of the long winter's break, students from IMAGE Film and Video's Media Education Initiative, Atlanta (MEDIA) Project headed to Park City, UT for the Sundance Film Festival's 2003 Reel Studio: Young Filmmakers Program. During the program, students are exposed to a variety of cinematic styles, including documentary filmmaking and social justice films, and have the opportunity to take part in workshops and discussions held by industry professionals. Each day the group experienced several Festival film screenings, took part in evening dinner workshops, toured the Sundance Digital Center, and attended question and answer sessions with experienced filmmakers. Workshop topics included cinematography, editing with a point of view, screenplay writing, and short filmmaking.
Founded in 2001, the MEDIA Project works to help disadvantaged students from ages 15 to 19 obtain a strong working knowledge of all aspects of media and gain direct work experience in media production. The MEDIA Project also gives students an opportunity for creative expression and accomplishment through the completion of a video project.
In addition to the Sundance buzz, IMAGE also welcomed back an old friend, as Mark Wynns joined the staff as Development Director. Wynns first began his tenure at IMAGE in 1998 as Education and Outreach Coordinator, but took a hiatus in late 2001 to pursue other filmmaking interests. Mark returns to replace Michelle Allen, who will remain with the firm to oversee the Annual IMAGE Awards Gala and provide hospitality coordination for the Atlanta Film Festival.
