The Magazine Association of Georgia/Southeast's annual
conference attracts magazine
publishers, editors, and their staff for two days of seminars, fun, and networking. The highlight of MAGS Annual Conference is the GAMMA Awards. Especially for Oz.
This year was no different. Competing in the Business to Business category, Oz swept the Bronze, Silver and Gold for Best Cover Design. For Best Feature, there was a tie . . . two stories from Oz tied for the Gold.
Lee Drew wrote both the cover stories, and both were designed and laid out by Lisa Cunard at Kudzu Graphics. The winning
stories were "Creative Ridicule"
in September/October 2002, and "Consumerism as Patriotism" in March/April 2002.
You could say Oz tied itself for Best Cover Design also. The Bronze was for last yearŐs Creative Index, the annual July/August 2002 issue of Oz, featuring a Bill Mayer
illustration. The Silver and Gold were awarded to covers designed by Jeff Gribble for the May/June 2002 issue. The issue was a split run, with half the magazines
getting one cover, half the
other cover.
For those of you keeping
score for Oz in 2002:
Mar/Apr: Gold, Feature Writing
May/Jun: Gold & Silver, Cover Design
July/Aug: Bronze, Cover Design
Sept/Oct: Gold, Feature Writing
Not a bad little run. Our great thanks to all our fine contributors and staff for helping make Oz a winner on a consistent basis. And many thanks to MAGS for its continued good and beneficial work.
