Turner's Little Fixer-Upper
After the contestants of the TBS home improvement series House Rules put their tools away, Turner Studios stepped in with producer Evolution Film & Tape to hammer out the nuts and bolts of the live prime-time finale, which pitted three couples against each other in a 12-week amateur remodeling competition.
Accustomed to shooting in pre-wired entertainment venues, the Turner Studios field operations team tackled the intricacies of broadcasting from the residential area of Katy, TX. Several thousand feet of fiber optic cable had to be hung above the streets to connect the competing homes, and engineers worked around the clock to set up an entire city block of production equipment. The Turner Studios crew was fast on its feet while shooting the live episode, quickly changing locations during commercial breaks in a juggling act
that delivered the series' highest ratings.
