Tinky Takes Over
Piedmont Park gets a mascot, and a new, rather melodic voice as local businesses
and celebrities join forces for Piedmont Park Conservancy's first-ever
big screen endeavor.
The film is a fun sing-along led by Tinky, an animated squirrel, who encourages
viewers to sing park-centric lyrics written to the tune of "Blister in the Sun," a popular
1980s song donated by the Violent Femmes. A variety of everyday people including
skaters, dog walkers, bike riders, kids, and kite-flyers sing
along with the catchy tune. Organic
farmers and supporting businesses
participating in the new Green
Market effort, impromptu drum circle players, and other colorful personalities are also
part of the fun.
"The collaborative energy surrounding this film is tremendous. It was
challenging and inspiring to take part in this enormous
production with such a talented
cast and crew. To see the final
product from start to finish, all while supporting a wonderful cause, is truly remarkable,"
said director Jon Hill. Other local celebrities featured in the film include Atlanta Falcons
mascot Freddie Falcon, several young actors from
Actor's Express, musicians, and a variety of others. The filming took place in a 14-hour
marathon on Saturday, May 8, 2004.
Other small businesses and professionals including Crawford
Post Production, PC&E, Acoustech,
Cinema Concepts, CineFilm,
Dagnabit! Animations, the creator
of Tinky, and George Lowe, the
voice of Tinky, all made significant
contributions.
