Echo Montgomery Garrett has been named Editor-in-Chief of Atlanta Woman magazine, winner of numerous coveted industry awards since its March 2002 incep
tion--most recently the 2004 Grand Gamma Award from the Magazine
Association of the Southeast. Publisher Rita Owens says, "We're excited about the level of journalistic expertise and passion that Echo brings to Atlanta Woman."
Garrett, an editor and writer whose work has appeared in more than 75 national publications including Business Week, Money, Chief Executive, and Inc., has specialized in covering entrepreneurs
and business for the majority of her 22-year journalism career. She has also written several books, including the forthcoming "From Underdog to Top Dog: How Clay Mathile transformed The Iams Company into the leader of the pack in the world of pet nutrition, " and "How To Make a Buck and Still Be a Decent Human Being: A Week with Rick Rose at Dataflex" (Harper Business).
Garrett, who has appeared on "Good Morning America, " CNN, CNBC, and NY-1, worked as an editor at McCall's and Venture maga
zines for six years in New York City before going freelance. She was on
contract as a writer with Money for
two years and produced regular
columns for Investor'sBusinessDaily and Management Review. Since moving to Atlanta in 1993, she served as a founding editor of www.biztravel.com and regularly contributed to The Atlanta Business
Chronicle and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles while continuing to write for national publications. Garrett, who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, holds a degree in journalism from Auburn University.
A passionate supporter of
children's causes, Garrett has written two international-award winning annual reports for Atlanta's Ronald McDonald Houses and
regularly volunteers with Hope for Children. She is a member of the Authors' Guild, has been named in Who's Who of American Women and formerly served as treasurer of the Newswomen's Club of New York. She owns See Level Studios, LLC, with her husband, Kevin Garrett, a photographer and writer, and resides in Marietta with sons, Caleb, 14, and Connor, 11.
