Doppler in the Mix
Doppler Studios has been busy. The Neptunes were
producing a mix for Gwen Stefani's upcoming Interscope release, "Love, Angel, Music, Baby". Phil Tan was the mix
engineer. Also for Interscope, Pat "Sleepy" Brown was laying down vocals for a collection of
previously-unreleased tracks by the late Tupac, titled "Loyal to the Game". Red Spyda was the
producer, and Alec Newell
engineered.
Mario Winans supervised the mixing of "If I Hit" by 112
featuring T.I. for Island Def Jam. Phil Tan was the mix engineer on the session. Other Artists at Doppler representing Island Def Jam included Teairra, tracking and recording vocals for a new release produced by Dre & Vidal; Ciara laying down vocals for Ja Rule; Kanye West doing vocals for his own project as well as
producing tracking for Beanie Sigel; and Lil Fate tracking music and vocals for several songs.
Gefen Records brought in Mos Def, who recorded vocals for "Freaky Black", which is on his new CD "The New Danger". Sam Thomas engineered the session.
Ciara recorded much of her CD "Goodies" at Doppler with
producers Jazze Pha, and Dre & Vidal. Engineers included Ralph Cacciurri, Sam Thomas and Carlton Lynn. LaFace records
stablemate Donnell Jones was in recording vocals for his project as well.
Jive rapper Petey Pablo was back at Doppler, tracking for his new release, and again the crew from Disturbing Tha Peace brought in a slew of artists to record vocals on various projects, including Ludacris, Playas Circle, Brolic D., Shariefah and K'Jon. Steve Fisher and Ralph Cacciurri engineered most of the sessions, with several producers, including Jazze Pha, who was also
recording tracks for his own
project on Atlantic.
Lil Jon and Big Boi produced vocals for Sony artist Omarion, with engineer Matt Still, and
resident producer Brian-Michael Cox was tracking for many
projects, including Lindsay Lohan, Destiny's Child, Johnta,
and Mary J.
On the soundtrack side of things, Ronnie Garrett was
producing several tracks with full band for the upcoming Tyler Perry film, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman".
Avril Lavigne was recording a video interview about her
performance of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song for the Warner Brothers animated film; Bow Wow recorded Dialog for the film "Roll Bounce; and Big Boi recorded his parts for an
upcoming "King of the Hill" episode. Other film projects at Doppler included recording a few characters for "3- the Dale Earnhardt Story", and the entire dialog for the feature length "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie. Also, Jane Fonda was in working on some line for the upcoming "Monster-In-Law" film for New Line Cinema, and the cast and crew of Space Ghost Coast to Coast recorded commentary for
a DVD.
Author Pearl Cleage
recorded her novel "Babylon Sisters" for BBC Audiobooks,
engineered and edited by Doppler's Granger Beem; and President Jimmy Carter was back once again, recording his audio book "Sharing Good Time" for Simon & Shuster, with John St. Denis engineering.
