STC Honors Its Own
The Society for Technical Communication (STC) Atlanta chapter has awarded its fourth annual David C. Leonard Scholarship for Technical Communication to Amy Griswold of Mercer University. Griswold was recognized at the Atlanta chapter's awards banquet on April 19, where she received a $500 check and a plaque commemorating the scholarship. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Alan Griswold of Warner Robins, were present. She will complete her undergraduate degree in technical communication at the Mercer University School of Engineering in May, and wants to focus her career in the usability and instructional design fields.
The scholarship was established to honor Dr. David C. Leonard, a long-time educator and member of the Atlanta chapter. It provides an annual award to a student from or residing in the state of Georgia who is studying technical communication.
STC does not just recognize talent in students, but looks inward as well. The Atlanta chapter has recognized and rewarded its outstanding member volunteers for their contributions during the 2004-2005 year. They also received their award trophies at the April 19 banquet. These outstanding member volunteers and their awards are: Michelle Norman, Member of the Year Award; Cheri Crider, Cornerstone Award; Leigh Richardson, President's Award; Gene Larson, Continuing Service Award; Nehanda Lindsey, Newcomer of the Year Award; Steve Sheppard, Behind the Scenes Award; and Jeff Albers, Behind the Scenes Award.
