The 1997 Atlanta Local Music Awards (ALMA Awards) welcomed another sold out crowd for its 5th Anniversary celebration. The event was held at The Cotton Club and was sponsored by an array of Atlanta businesses, including WNNX-Atlanta, APC Studios, Active Lighting and Design, ASCAP, Hard Rock Cafe, Sweetwater Brewery, and Atlanta Discount Music. Hosts Laurie Nappo of APC Studios and Steve Craig of 99X handed out 16 awards, introduced 13 performances, and recognized 11 sponsors. A few stars and local favorites recognized were: Atlanta Discount Music (Music Equipment Store), Michelle Malone (Acoustic Act), Stuck Mojo (Signed Georgia Artist), Ichiban (Record Label), Miller's Tale (People's Choice Award), Wax 'n' Fax (Retail Store), and Shock Lobo (Alternative Rock). Live performances were broadcast live via the Internet. Ranging from R&B to Rockabilly to Heavy Extreme, a few of the local artists that graced the stage were Soul Miner's Daughter, The Continental's, Stuck Mojo, Six Ways to Sunday, Shock Lobo, Beehive, Takoda, and II da flo.
