Bair Tracks All Over TNT Promos

Bair Tracks handled audio post production for the 1997/98 NBA playoffs for TNT. The six week block booking marks the sixth consecutive year that Ed Bair has handled the promos for TNT. The spots open and close with dramatic film elements exhibiting the NBA and TNT logos on video monitors suspended from the roof of a sports arena, with high intensity flashing lights. Fast paced highlights of the previous night's games fill out the spots. The promos, which are delivered to Bair Tracks every day in mid-afternoon, must be ready to air during that evening's game. The actual sound from the highlight footage is not clean enough to use, so sound effects were created, synched to picture, and mixed with music and voice using a custom sound effects library on hard disk and a 32 channel Pro Tools system.
Bair Tracks also sweetened and mixed promos for TNT's original movie, "Thicker Than Blood," starring Mickey Rourke and Dan Futterman. The promos depict a character running from the police in alleys, fighting with his teacher, and struggling with a fellow gang member. Sound Designer Joe Boyd Vigil created fence rattling sounds, ambient sirens, and layered urban drum tracks and used an aqua harp to create haunting tones for transitions and fades. Carlo Alban recorded voiceover in person at Bair Tracks direct to Pro Tools through a vintage Neumann U87.
