The Superstation Has Super People The Superstation Has Super People The Harland Boys and Girls Club on Peeples Street has a new look and a new library, thanks to the impressive effort put worth by volunteers from WTBS/TBS Superstation. Bill Burke, President of TBS Superstation, explains that the Superstation is an active participant in the growth of young minds. The Harland Boys and Girls Club provides Atlanta's west side with after school and summer programs for over 860 children per year. To the newly constructed library, the Superstation added more than 300 new books, with more to arrive periodically throughout the year. The construction, painting, and book sorting took Superstation volunteers more than 300 hours.
TBS also held an awards celebration at The Conservation ARC, at Zoo Atlanta, and awarded seventeen Atlanta area residents. The event raised $20,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. TBS-17, along with BellSouth, the UPS Foundation, and Georgia Power, sponsored the event which was attended by more than 200 people in the community. The Super 17 winners were honored for their dedication to improving the Atlanta community through their outstanding volunteerism and commitment to community service.
"interact.america," TBS's high tech, 35-minute magazine show, was recently honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and awarded two Southern Regional Emmys. interact.america's first Emmy was "Outstanding Achievement: Television Programming Excellence/Cultural Affairs Program." The episode took an in depth look at a group of people determined to preserve a piece of their culture, those who don't believe that, "newer is necessarily better." The other Emmy was awarded for "Outstanding Achievement: Television Programming Excellence/Interview/Discussion Program." The episode provided an in-depth discussion among Atlanta's participants in the President's National Summit on Volunteerism held in Philadelphia.
