Art Institute Celebrates The Big 5-O! Art Institute Celebrates The Big 5-O! The Art Institute of Atlanta will hold a day long series of events to celebrate the college's 50th anniversary and to dedicate its new campus on October 21, 1999. The new location is in the Embassy Row complex at 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road. The day will begin with a press conference including comments from Robert B. Knutson, Chairman and CEO of Education Management Corporation, of which The Art Institute of Atlanta is a wholly owned subsidiary. Other activities throughout the day include: campus tours, a noon luncheon, panel discussions and presentations by applied arts and culinary industry professionals, and an evening reception. In addition, a special exhibit about the college's history since 1949 will be on view in the gallery. The exhibit will offer viewers an opportunity to speculate on what the college will be like in another 50 years as well as offering a creative perspective on the past. All alumni are invited to attend.
Art Institute of Atlanta's parent company, Education Management Corporation recently appointed John R. McKernan, Jr. as Vice Chairman. McKernan, former Governor of the State of Maine and a past member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will oversee EDMC's activities in the areas of strategic acquisitions and corporate development, employer relations and public affairs. In addition, McKernan, and Robert P. Gioella, President and CEO of the company, have been elected to EDMC's Board of Directors, increasing the number of seats on the board from seven to nine.
