VTA Veteran Wins Emmy
Video Tape Associates' Senior Audio Engineer Dave Wheeler recently won the 1999 Southern Regional Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Collaborative Achievement: Television Craft Excellence/Audio" for the second year. The longtime employee of VTA won the award for his achievement on "Predators," a television spot created by Fox Sports South in collaboration with producer Jim Claussen. The spot was created for the Nashville Predators ice hockey team. The Atlanta Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) presented the Emmy to Wheeler at a banquet held in Atlanta at the Grand Hyatt Hilton. Last year Wheeler walked away with the Emmy in the Audio category for the opening segment for FOX Sports South network's "Countdown to Signing Day" series that spotlighted the top 250 high school senior football players from around the Southeast. Wheeler received two nominations in the audio category. Wheeler's second 1998 nomination was for a takeoff on "Men in Black," called "Men in Teal," a campaign for FOX Sports South's coverage of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. Although it didn't win the audio category, it did score an EMMY for "Promotional Announcement/Topical." Dave Wheeler has been an audio engineer with VTA since 1983 and is a member of the Atlanta Society of Audio Professionals (ASAP).
