Atlanta Celebrates Photography Atlanta Celebrates Photography
Atlanta Celebrates Photography launched its first annual citywide event in October and kicked off the month's activities with an Official Launch Party at the Capital City Club Ballroom. The program paid tribute to legendary photographer Harry Callahan. Callahan lived in Atlanta until his death in March 1999. Fine art galleries, educational institutions, corporate venues, public spaces, and independent fine art photographers showcased photography by local, regional, and internationally known artists during the month. The Photographers' Collective, in conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography presented an exhibition on October 9th. The exhibition of photographic works by members of The Photographers' Collective took place at the historic Crown Candy Lofts. The exhibition featured works by nearly 20 local and regional photographers.
The exhibition was the first for this new photographers group. Some of the photographer's featured included: Chipp Jamison, Judith Pishnery, Ken Hawkins, Harriet Leibowitz, and John Slemp. Atlanta Celebrates Photography is a nonprofit arts organization made up of individuals representing Atlanta's arts and educational institutions. The planning committee has been working together for more than a year to create a quality event that will become an annual citywide celebration of photography in Atlanta. In its second year, 2000, Atlanta Celebrates Photography plans a Lecture Series focusing on fine art photography in the new millennium.
