Atlanta Teleproductions Produces "SpeedWorld" Atlanta Teleproductions Produces "SpeedWorld"

Atlanta Teleproductions produced the powerboat racing's 1999 Laughlin Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour to air on the ESPN2 cable show "SpeedWorld." Ritch Vogan, President and Producer/Director for Atlanta Teleproductions, won the contract for the packaging of the series from Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour President Gary Garbrecht and his son Bart Garbrecht, Executive Vice President of the Tour. They are based in Lake Hamilton, Florida. Vogan, with wife and partner Melanie Vogan, worked out the scheduling, crewing, and equipment logistics of the eight races this year that took place across North America, from Laughlin, Nevada, to Augusta, Georgia, and from Saskatoon, Canada, to Pensacola, Florida. The first four races occurred each weekend in June. For the post production of the shows, Melanie reached back to the days when she was a graphic designer at Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta during the mid-80's and worked with Video Tape Associates on a variety of projects. Melanie contacted VTA about doing the graphics, on-line edit, and audio tracking, and post for the powerboat series. Utilizing remote trucks provided by National Mobile Television in Seattle and crews that Melanie put together from Atlanta and the race locales, Ritch shot each race as though it were live to save time in post. Melanie supervised the creation of the graphics and supers used in the show, using the Chyron Infinit! and templates provided by ESPN. Due to the daytime demands of running their business, Melanie & Ritch chose to edit the show on-line in the evenings with VTA Editor Tom Rice. On camera announcers Art Eckman and Brett May came into VTA's audio booth and tracked the show with voiceovers to add to what was recorded on location during the race. VTA's Dave Wheeler mixed the show. VTA then shipped the air master and a viewing master to ESPN, and the Vogans turned their attention to the next race.
