LAB 601 Growth Hormone? LAB 601 Growth Hormone?

LAB 601 is pleased to announce the addition of Claudia Goodwin-Cummings to its team of LAB techs. Claudia will join the post house May 22nd as Operations Manager. Before joining LAB 601, Claudia was the Scheduling Coordinator for the Effects Department at Turner Studios. Claudia first jumped into the Atlanta market in 1996 as an Assistant Editor at Peachtree Post after graduating from the Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Orlando, Florida. She moved on to schedule crews and equipment for both production and post at iXL as Production Coordinator.

The most recent addition to the LAB 601 staff is Senior Editor Jay Hunt. A veteran Atlanta freelancer, Jay started at Turner Broadcasting. Working with clients like MCI WorldCom, The Home Depot, The Coca-Cola Company, Warner Bros., USA Home Entertainment, and CNN, Jay has committed himself to provide bleeding edge options and “creative Zen.”

In addition, Dzignlight Studios, a high end visual effects and animation house, will relocate its Atlanta operations to the new LAB 601 facility. “The advantage of moving here, aside from the convenient location and increased space, is the integration with LAB 601’s revolutionary system,” says Dzignlight Studios owner Eric Deren. “We will be able to offer our clients working in any of the LAB 601 suites instant access to their effects and animations without ever having to output to tape. In fact, we can ensure that their animation is loaded and waiting for them when they enter the edit suite. I also like the LAB 601 commitment to staying ahead of the curve with the most powerful tools and systems in the industry.”

LAB 601 continues its work with current clients. The Southern Center for International Studies and LAB 601 recently completed work on a documentary project covering the whole of Africa. The program, Africa in Transition, is a part of the Southern Center’s “in Transition educational series. Africa in Transition is a six-part program covering the history, politics, economy, environment, health, and culture of the continent. Julia White produced the show for the Southern Center, a Peabody Award winning educational non-profit organization dedicated to improving the American people’s understanding of the rest of the world. The series is used in teacher training workshops throughout the United States, in corporate training sessions to internationalize the thinking of management, by the U.S. Air Force and public officials, and in high school classrooms to spice up the social studies curricula. LAB 601 President David Ballard off-lined the program on the AVID Media Composer and finished in the Symphony Universal. Also for the SCIS, LAB 601 completed post production “The Annual Report of the Secretaries of Defense.” The series is an annual review of each year’s significant foreign policy issues through a roundtable exchange of thoughts and opinions by former U.S. Secretaries of Defense.

The national product launch of LG Prime, a revolutionary new flooring product, was a great success thanks to the work of LAB 601: they recently completed production of the video introducing LG Prime to the world. The screening of the video for the product rollout at the Surfaces trade show in Las Vegas attracted the attention of customers and competitors alike. Post-production was completed in-house at LAB 601 by Senior Editor Dave Ballard and was rounded off with graphics and animation from Dzignlight Studios. Audio sweetening was handled by White Dog Studios.

Speaking of launches, Dave Ballard of LAB 601 Digital Post and Eric Deren of Dzignlight Studios presented their work at this year’s SlamDunk Film Festival in Park City, UT. SlamDunk is the largest of several indie festivals surrounding Sundance, the world’s leading independent film festival. Ballard and Deren presented a series of freeflying videos at one of the festival’s rave. Freeflying is an extreme and aerobatic form of skydiving. Freeflyers carrying helmet mounted cameras provide a daredevil’s POV of the action.
