Creative Circus Students Win Gold Creative Circus Students Win Gold

Creative Circus students made their school proud at the 2000 L.A. Student Award Show. Students Greg Wyatt, Art Director and Jonathan Ozer, Copywriter took home a Gold for their Chevron billboard. The mock interstate sign plays on the oft heard line, “uh, mom....” “GOTTAGOPEE 24 MILES.”

Silver awards went to Eric Proulx, John K. Reid, Alex Russell, and Michelle Fiero. Circus student merit awards went to Dean Shavor, Natalie Kaufman, Stephen Hindley, Paul Johnson, Mike Butterworth, Kevin Griffin, Berry Kendall, Ty Hutchinson, and Pete Shamon.

Disproving the theory that “we don’t need no education,” the students of Creative Circus are getting more accolades in the creative world. An ad campaign by Copywriter, Rich Lufrano and Art Director, Tana Kosiyabong will appear in the British Design & Art Direction’s 2000 Student Annual. Lufrano and Kosiyabong designed the ads to generate interest in City & Guilds, a British training program with classes in construction, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and other vocational areas. One ad displays a mansion with the headline “There are those who insist that blue collar workers aren’t smart. To them we say ‘Rewire Your Own Damn House’.”

The praise just doesn’t stop. Three Creative Circus students have been chosen as finalists in the student category of the 2000 ATHENA Awards, presented by the Newspaper Association of America for creativity in newspaper advertising. The promising entry in the single ad category reads, “Quit your itching.” The ad for Lanacane shows a man wearing a dog funnel. Mark Sorenson acted as Art Director and Stephanie Santore wrote copy. Two other teams were selected to compete in the campaigns category: Eric Arnold (Art Director) and Bruce Behrens (Copywriter); Charlie D’Attillio (Art Director) and Liz King (Copywriter). Rick Boyko, CEO of Ogilvy & Mather North America in New York was Chairman at the judging table. Winners will be announced at the awards show on September 21 at EXIT in New York and will take home $5,000.
