“Excessibility”, an exhibition of package design at the Georgia State University Student Gallery, showcased the work of eight seniors from GSU’s Graphic Design Program. The exhibition, which ran in June, played on ideas of consumer excess. The set suggested an absurd retail environment with hanging banners reading, “Get it all now!” Students mocked up packages and point of purchase displays for fake products. Kim Hall’s Brainbath Shampoo, promised to “boost your intelligence with every use.” Professor Liz Throop encouraged the students to invent products which sold because of their seductive packaging instead of their appealing claims. Dan Dickson created LoserCologne and sausage flavored breath mints named Halimints with the tag, “Become Offensive.”
