Repairing a Bad Rap Repairing a Bad Rap

A high school shooting and a PBS documentary portraying out of control teenagers has not been good press for the area 30 miles east of Atlanta. “Partners for Tomorrow,” the marketing arm of Conyers, Georgia and Rockdale County looked to redefine their image after numerous negative national stories broke out which questioned the way of life in their community.

Larry McKinney, President of Partners for Tomorrow discovered Kossover & Company and charged them with the task of re-imaging the area. Director Herb Kossover and Executive Producer Amy Reed toured the county, speaking with residents and merchants. Responding to a hand full of serious incidents Conyers has suffered quite publicly, their mission was to highlight the caring citizens that spend their days in the community. Two :30 spots, one for business and one for quality of life, were fashioned as well as a two minute long form message. Over 30 locations were covered in a four day shoot. Super 16 afforded a wide format look and letterboxes with white soft borders. Kossover called on Erik Grant, who had written an upbeat theme for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, to compose an original song to accompany the messages. Grant’s answer was a trendy pop song entitled “A Beautiful Sight.”

Along with Kossover and Reed, the crew consisted of Rena Olsen, Production Coordinator; Joe Clayton, Gaffer; Norman Andrews, 1st Camera Assistant; Cliff Wiggins, 2nd Camera Assistant; Scott Trimble and Troy Toebben, Best Boys; Jay Jackson, Make-up; and Teri Lamprey and Sharon Phillip as Production Assistants. Cameras came from PC&E. Transfer was done by CineTransfer’s colorist, Ron Anderson. The Production Shop handled post production.
