SkillLearning.com, a web based learning system donated computers, software, IT training, and SkillLearning course offerings at the grand opening of the Atlanta’s first Community Technology Initiative (CTI) center. Mayor, Bill Campbell and President/CEO of SkillLearning, Roosevelt Giles officially opened CTI headquarters at 818 Pollard Street. Guests were entertained with a live demonstration of some on the new web technology available at the center such as Web chat and Webcasting. The center has four labs: one innovation lab to demonstrate and use new technology, two teaching labs with on hand SkillLearning certified instructors, and another all purpose lab available on a first come first serve basis.
The technology center is the first municipally sponsored technology learning facility in the country. Launched through the City of Atlanta’s Office of Community Technology, the CTI intends to provide technology access to underdeserved communities in Atlanta. The Cable Television Franchise Agreement and corporate partnership donations fund the $8.1 million initiative.
