Simon Captures Vanishing China Simon Captures Vanishing China
According to Atlanta Producer/Director, Adair Simon, in only a few years scenes of the Yangtze River in China wandering by the Mountain Gate of Qu Yan Temple and spectacular gorges with names like Tactics Book, Sword Gorge, and Bull’s Liver will be only a memory. In their place will be a man-made lake covering this fertile land and many of the country’s archeological and scenic treasures. This prospect prompted the Video Progressions Producer and Owner to travel to China to capture the scenes and to record visions that may not be there for long.
“There is tremendous controversy surrounding the building of this dam,” said Simon. “But China has made its decision. It is an unfortunate fact of life that China’s need to control killer floods and for power to move into the new century has made it necessary to inundate 10,000 years of history and beauty.” She returned from her trip at the end of September and brought back footage shot on her Cannon three chip digital camera from other famous landmarks like Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and of course, The Great Wall. Simon plans to make the digital tape available to those interested in seeing or using the images. Working with Writer Candace Long and Director of Photography, Fran Burst-Terranella, Simon and Video Progressions has just completed a video for Horizon Software to introduce Fast Lane software to elementary age children who will use it as a debit account for lunch at school. With animation and Fran’s perspective from her wheelchair view of the children, the video captivates young audiences who seldom see film shot from their point of view. The final video blending animation and live footage edited by Accelerated Images is currently showing in Florida.
