Marilyn McDonald of Odyssey Group enlisted Jon Philpot’s Avid expertise to build a promotional video for the Cartoon Network Bowling Club. Shown at various bowling alleys during the club launch, the video features network celebs and details of the new membership program.

On Whoa’s home ground, Will Fratesi has been ushered in as Jr. Avid Editor. His checkered past includes a stint as drummer with Atlanta punk legends, Go-Devils. Fratesi’s aim is to extend his aural talents into the realm of the visual. Whoa’s Kevin Sargent, said this of his new teammate, “He’s got a pretty good wardrobe and a boundless creativity. We’re looking forward to cultivating both at Whoa!”

More Whoa project news… Waterworks Productions lead by Director Tom De Cuir and Producer Carol Beck invited Whoa!’s effects and audio departments to join them in whitewater style adventure. The outdoor production specialists along with Flint artist, Adrian Guedin and Sound Designer, Philpot created a :30 spot for the whitewater rafting program at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Wesser, North Carolina. The commercial features river action footage shot at the Ocoee River, the 1996 Olympic Whitewater venue. Sound design emphasizes artificially heightened natural sounds against a backdrop of roaring water. Producer Beck announced emphatically, “This is the first time I’ve gotten to do a location scout in my kayak!”

Senior Designer, Kevin Fitzgerald and Director of Production for Trade and Creative Services, Beth Haden came to Whoa! looking for some help in creating a video for the grand opening celebration of the Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California. Playing on video monitors throughout the facility, the piece featured characters from the network’s hit shows, like “The PowerPuff Girls,” Johnny Bravo, and “Dexter’s Laboratory” over a background of groovy beats. Editor, Bill Orisich and After Effects Artist, Brad Mace created a music driven sampler echoing the style of invitation designed by Fitzgerald.
