Looking Southward Looking Southward
The exhibit running at Right Brain Art Gallery in October will be looking at the Southeast and South America as well as the three local photographers included. Presenting black and white and hand painted photographs, the exhibit will run through November 11 with an opening reception on October 6. Two of the photographers work actively in the commercial arena.
Photographer, Jon Hill bought his very first camera (a Kodak Brownie) for half a dollar at a garage sale and has been shooting ever since. Hill’s contribution to the show is a unique perspective detailed in his vignettes for which he uses historic photo processes, toners, and transferring techniques. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design, Hill works extensively in commercial, fashion, and portraiture photography. Photographer, Matthew Donovan Lambert shares his fascination with night in his pieces. Like Hill, his devotion was conceived at a young age. “In a way, my feeling for the night has not changed. I crave it as my sanctuary; the place where I can be spiritualistic.” Lennert studied at the San Francisco Academy of Art and the Art Institute of Atlanta. He has been a Studio Manager and 1st Assistant to many commercial photographers. Currently, he is Associate Art Director at Arthritis Today. Evelyn Hammond’s hand-painted infrared photographs are creative interpretations of landscapes she has visited. The black and white infrared film imparts her photos with a dreamlike feeling. Hammond received her bachelor’s degree in fine art photography from the University of Massachusetts though she has also studied at the University of Guadalaraja, Mexico, the La Napoule Art Foundation in Southern France and the College of Europe in Brugge, Belgium.
