Lawyers Speak Out Lawyers Speak Out

Founded in 1975, Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (GVLA) aims to serve the legal needs of the state’s artists and art organizations. To fulfill their mission, they answer legal questions from visual artists, writers, performers, and musicians and make referrals to pro bono lawyers; give free legal advice to non-profit arts organizations with budgets under $500,000; and conduct workshops on issues relating to the industry including contracts and copyrights, taxes and recordkeeping, and nonprofit incorporation. Groups are asked to sponsor the various workshops. Their next workshop is scheduled for November 7 at the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and will cover non-profit corporate compliance, board management, fundraising, and tax compliance.
