Digital Projection, Inc. recently returned from the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The company’s ultra-bright, LIGHTNING 15sx digital projectors were used as the exclusive on set display technology for NBC’s Olympic studios. According to Jeremy Conway, NBC’s Production Designer, the projections were used primarily as visual elements during the televised broadcasts. Design elements include a 15-feet (high) and 22-feet (diameter) “cylindrical” shaped screen in Studio 1 with a LIGHTNING 15sx projecting directly over the anchor desk. Studio 2 featured an irregularly shaped screen 24-feet wide and 12-feet high in an abstract design. Both studios were designed to support over 400 hours of broadcasting to 180 million US viewers.
