Planets Aligning at LAB 601 Planets Aligning at LAB 601

LAB 601 recently completed production on a PSA for the Captain Planet Foundation screened at the Atlanta premiere of the Warner Bros. movie, “The Red Planet.” The charity event at the Rialto Theater was graced by such celebrities as Ted Turner, CNN Headline News Anchor, Lynne Russell, and two of the movie’s stars, Tom Sizemore and Simon Baker. Proceeds from the premiere and the reception will go to the Captain Planet Foundation in Atlanta.

The foundation, which educates children on the preservation and protection of the planet’s natural resources, plans to include the LAB’s expertise in future fundraising and communication campaigns. LAB 601 President, David Ballard saw the project as a chance to give something to a worthwhile organization.

The PSA was produced by Greg Pope and Scott Thigpen and conformed by Ballard at the LAB. Eric Deren of Dzignlight Studios provided animation of the Captain Planet logo.

Promoting news has also kept the LAB 601 denizens busy. They completed a spot for CNN Interactive in the name of the company’s new CNNfyi.com website. Produced by Tracy Bishop, the spot is a showcase of the site’s media capabilities and interactivity. Ballard edited and finished the spot with his Symphony Universal.

An educational website, it was launched in September by CNN Interactive and Turner Learning. The site is geared to students and teachers in high school and middle school. Broadcast on CNN, content is provided by CNN NEWSROOM and CNN Student Bureau along with partners Riverdeep Interactive Learning, Harcourt, Inc., and HighWired.com.

LAB 601 isn’t just concentrating on philanthropic and creative work. The crew invited guests to celebrate Halloween with scrumptious snacks, beakers of wine and fascinating chats with interesting people. The highlight of the party was the premiere of the Alpha Film Group’s latest film, “Paranoid.” Written, directed, and edited by Ash Smith, LAB 601 conformed and color corrected the film and created the opening title treatment. Smith missed the holiday festivities while in London arranging distribution deals for overseas markets.

The entertaining horror flick engrossed its audience in 601’s High Definition projection theater which boasts Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and is open to the public for meetings, parties, screenings, weddings, and bar/bat mitzvahs.
