Charlie Coates paired up with Post Modern Avid Editor, Christine Deckel to cut “Patch it Up,” the story behind the reconstruction of the classic documentary, “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is: Special Edition.” “Patch it Up” will be accompanying the DVD documentary which is planned for worldwide release by Warner Bros. in January. Interviews, film clips, and stills tell the story of the $1 million restoration in the nine minute featurette. Coates and Deckel also edited two shorter version of the final cut to run on Turner Classic Movies and to promote the airdates of the film on the network.

Post Modern looked like an Elvisonian shrine for a while. The edit suite was bedecked with Elvis posters and rock-n-roll lamps while the king’s music played. “I am a big Elvis fan to begin with, and being able to see footage of him just being himself at rehearsals was very cool,” Coates said.

“Patch it Up” was edited in Post Modern’s Avid III suite and then imported into the Symphony suite for finishing. Coates and Deckel, the dynamic duo, have hooked up before on several projects, including the Telly Award winning, “Private Screenings: Anthony Quinn.”

Atlanta Writer/Producer, Wayne Johnson was commissioned to create national radio and TV spots, as well as local market spots highlighting theatrical screenings, to promote the broadcast of the documentary. Earlier in 2000, Johnson won a Gold Promax Award for his work on another TCM world-premiere documentary. Johnson’s recent work includes clients like The Weather Channel, Rainbow Media, and design firm, Hatmaker in Boston.
