And the Oscar goes to… And the Oscar goes to…

The folks at Crawford Post Production probably have been doing their share of nail biting. Crawford supplied post production services for a documentary short film named an Academy Awards semi-finalist in the Best Short Subject Documentary category. One of nine films to make it to semi-finalist status, the film may be one of five nominees to be announced on awards night.

The half hour film, “The Internationale” explores the song of the same name. The song was written in the late 1800s and has become a rallying cry for oppressed world citizens for over a century. The documentary traces the development of the song before and after the Russian Revolution, during the Great Depression in the United States and the Civil War in Spain, since the fall of the Soviet Union, Tiananmen Square, and the end of the Cold War.

Film and Tape Editor Tom Roche performed the online editing for the film using Crawford’s 8100 all digital linear suite and hundreds of source reels to give the footage a uniform look. Following the edit, the film’s sound mix was mastered on Crawford Audio’s digital SSL consoles. Crawford’s Film Transfer suite did the final tape to tape color correction.

The film was shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York as part of the Academy Award’s short subject semi-finals screen night. The film was also viewed by Academy members in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Director/Producer Peter Miller hopes the documentary, which took over seven years to complete, will make it to a national audience and be broadcast on PBS. Art house and educational distributor, First Run Icarus Films, has already picked up “The Internationale” for distribution.
