Wide Open Wraps Wide Open Wraps

Wide Open Films wrapped shooting on a short feature entitled, “The Number,” adding another genre to their portfolio. They hope the piece will launch them into the feature film market and catapult them into the festival market as well.

Written and directed by Wide Open Co-Owner, Brian Gurley, “The Number” tells the story of a young man at odds with the people surrounding him. Testing and learning the strength of his ingenuity, the man stages a creative way to get back at all of his opponents. The story becomes a humorous chain of events that lead to the man’s final “attack.”

John Carter, Executive Producer, sees the project as a leap to feature film production and a model for such production. Carter plans to use a formula for production including property review, casting, promotion, and management.

Wide Open invited WetAir to record the proceedings. The “Behind the Scenes” documentary can be viewed at wetair.com, where visitors can take a look at the “behind the scenes” on a variety of productions, from big budget features, to music, to shorts. Through WetAir, one college student served as Assistant Producer on the film, while another played a cameo role. The balance of the cast was led by 99X celeb, Steve Barnes.

Wide Open is not only reeling in projects, but awards too. The production company recently regaled at the 22nd Annual Telly Awards, winning a Bronze for the BellSouth “I Wanna Be” commercial. The piece was designed to convey the importance of using the internet and other BellSouth technologies in the classroom. Written and directed by Gurley, the concept was based on children’s projections for the future. Children were captured in activities such as karate practice or playing in the washtub, while the narration tells the viewer of the subject’s hopes for the future. Gurley shot the piece using Super 16mm. Keehln Wheeler assisted concepting; Editor Chanel Davis completed the piece.
