Synergy Film’s George Watkins paired up with production companies from across the states to produce a pilot viewed over the World Wide Web with streaming media hitting cyberspace. Along with Mystic Java Productions, a multimedia enterprise, “Mystic Java Café,” a TV sitcom pilot will be streamed and solicited to network executives through st3.com’s streaming media technology. Filmed in Chattanooga, the pro ducers want to ob tain a TV or cable distribution agreement via their chosen me dium and then continue to stream bloopers, outtakes, and live improv sessions on the site. Virtual advertising will be inserted into the site, debuting at www.Mysticjava.com, through a new virtual imaging technology developed by Symah Vision.
Mystic Java Productions is now negotiating with Saks, Incorporated and Lancome Paris to be web ad sponsors for upcoming editions. The 20 person crew on “Mystic Java Café” also included Hollywood production veteran Wells Smith who worked on the film production sets of “True Lies,” “Pelican Brief,” and “Interview with a Vampire.” The pilot was edited at MRG Productions, a $12 million studio in Cleveland, Tennessee.
The site incorporates a retail e-commerce site for the café. The pilot is actually filmed in a flagship unit which will be marketed like “Cheers” for the 21st century. The streaming story follows two former college roommates who reunite and open a mystic-themed coffee shop, bookstore and yoga facility. The cast includes a host of com edians and actors from the PeopleStore.
Watkins said, “The most creative part of the project might just be the overall business plan… It’s absolutely brilliant how it marries retail venues, a TV sitcom, stream ing video and the new concept of e-commerce… Mystic Java? Oh yeah… there’s magic here. You’ll want a second cup.”
