Brian Owens’ work has been selected to appear in the Art Directors 80th Annual Book, Exhibition, and Traveling Show as part of the New York Art Directors Club. The logo, created by the Creative Circus student for Empire Seafood, features the body of a fish with the top of the Empire State Building fashioned as the head. Owens’ work was chosen from over 16,000 entries. The Preview and Gala celebration will be held at the beginning of June at the Art Directors Club Gallery in New York. Four copies of the Exhibition will be traveling the world in August hitting Asia, Europe, Brazil, and the states.
Owens isn’t the only student making Creative Circus proud. For the fourth time in the past six years, Creative Circus students have brought home the gold and the $5,000 first prize from the ANDYs, a worldwide advertising competition spons ored by the Advertising Club of New York. Student Art Director Tonya Merke and Copywriter Joey Googe brought home an award for their Legos campaign. Bulletin boards made out of colorful building blocks reading “Toys change. Except for the GOOD ONES,” “BUILD instead of de stroy,” and “To make something GREAT you need good raw materials.” Merke and Googe accepted their award at the Manhattan Center from presenters Jeff Goodby, Rich Silverstein, and Andy Berlin. The campaign will be displayed in both the winner’s book and at the awards show in New York.
