On April 22, Georgia Public Television (GPTV) broadcast the television premiere of “The Journey of Sir Douglas Fir.” The one hour family musical is based on the March 4th World Orchestra Premiere performance of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO), a troupe of music theater actors, a GRAMMY select chorus of young students, and professionals from the Record ing Academy’s Atlanta Chapter. Ric Reitz, Executive Producer/Writer/Lyricist, produced the program with an entirely Georgian cast and crew under contracts with AFTRA and AFM.
Jim Sedlak contributed as Producer, Tom Arcuragi as Director. Post production was handled by Cat’s Eye Productions, Giant Studios, and Doppler Studios. Jim Ellis wrote the original music and score and David Brewer provided animation and illustration.
The story, which won the 2000 Independent Publisher Book Award for Best Children’s Audio Book is an account of a true event in which the genuine Sir Douglas Fir is blown over in a storm.
