Todd-AO has recently added one suite and upgraded five of their 13 current suites. With Digital Solutions’ help, Todd-AO upgraded two AVID Media Composers and one AVID Symphony to NT systems, added an AVID Media Express and integrated them all with a Unity Server. Now the Unity Server holds the media for all of the suites storing over 550 gigs of information, opening up scheduling options. Symphony Editor Rick Dascher said, “We can give clients more choices when they schedule their projects and are also able to fit in last minute revisions much easier.”

One of the early projects to take advantage of Todd-AO’s new system was TNT Network’s SAG Awards. With a lot of material and a tight deadline, the client was able to digitize materials while ac cessing the same footage out of two rooms simultaneously. Doubled up sessions cut editing time in half.

Online Assistant Matt Barron was moved into a new position, AVID assistant, running the AVID Express and assisting Editor Sean Polinski by transferring graphics and creating titles.

Todd-AO also upgraded two Smoke Suites. The suites were connected to each other so that material on one suite’s hard drive can be accessed by the other. Both run on Discreet Software’s latest release.
