Spinning Stetsons and Steak Spinning Stetsons and Steak
Spin Productions is sticking with the Big Haired Lady (BHL), Longhorn’s unforgettable spokesperson. The newest ad vertising campaign was shot in the desert outside of Los Angeles. The commercial opens with the BHL driving through the desert to the tunes of “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” in a vintage convertible complete with horns on the hood. As she barrels across the pristine landscape, Miss BHL throws off her oversized Stet son to reveal her pain stakingly coifed hairdo replicating the Stetson curve for curve. The comm erc ial ends with Founder George McKerr ow holding a sign reading “Go West.”
The finished product is as colorful as Miss BHL herself. Adams isolated information in the existing photo to give relative camera height, lens power, and horizon, blocking the shot on location as the car drove into position. And of course, Spin faced the challenges of shooting in the desert —constructing a gigantic screen strong enough to hold its own against brutal gusts of wind, creating soft light to match the dawn envisioned in the storyboards though shooting was done during the day… Spin finished the spot with color correction and filtering as well as replacement shots and heat effects.
