The Association of Independent Commercial Producers’ (AICP) annual event, produced in conjunction with New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), has oft been hailed as the “America’s Cannes.”
The Southeast screening of “Art and Technique of the American Tele vision Commercial” was held at the High Museum. Hosted by the local AICP chapter, the screening featured the year’s best commercials now ensconced in a permanent collection at the MOMA. Over 350 advertising and production pros participated in judging the entries. Cat egories included Visual Style, Dialogue or Monologue, Visual Eff ects, Talent/Performance, Art Direction, Copywriting, Advertising Excellence, Low Budget, and Spec.
According to Craig Miller, President of Atlanta’s chapter, the event is the only juried one “in the industry in which a cross section of professionals judge the work, and where the honored commercials are recognized as an art form.”
This year there were no entries from the Big Peach, but Governor Roy Barnes was on hand to speak about building a stronger business base for Atlanta’s ad agencies, production companies, and other creative resources.
